Technology Director

The Technology Lab is our newest department added to the club. Added in the Summer of 2002, the Tech Lab has developed an array of programs through out the past couple of years.
Here is a little of what we offer....
 Photoshop
Is a graphics and image editing program by Adobe Systems. It is a tool used for personal image (photo) manipulation and other artistic purposes. It is used to manipulate or enhance digital photographs and to create original digital artwork. With Photoshop sky is the limit with what one can create. You can make virtually any modification to an image that you could ever imagine. One of the many purposes of this Photoshop program is to open the minds and creativity of our members.

Club Tech: Includes the following....

Skill Tech I and II: These basic computer skills programs are available on myclubmylife.com in English and Spanish. Skill Tech: Basic Training develops club members' proficiency with word processing, spreadsheet, and other productivity software through fun, hands–on, engaging lessons and projects for four age groups. Skill Tech II picks up where Skill Tech: Basic Training leaves off. It focuses on developing specific, age–appropriate technology skills with an emphasis on computer hardware, networking, and the Internet. It is designed to teach advanced yet practical technology skills to Club members.

     NetSmartz

NetSmartz  is an interactive, educational safety resource from the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children® (NCMEC) and Boys & Girls Clubs of America (BGCA) for children aged 5 to 17,  that uses age-appropriate, 3-D activities to teach children how to stay safer on the Internet.

The goal of the NetSmartz Workshops are to extend the safety awareness of children to prevent victimization and increase self-confidence whenever they go online. These goals include to

  • enhance the ability of children to recognize dangers on the Internet
  • enhance the ability of children to understand that people they first "meet" on the Internet should never be considered their friend
  • encourage children to report victimization to a trusted adult
  • support and enhance community education efforts
  • increase communication between adults and children about online safety

The NetSmartz Workshop teaches children the rules for online safety.

  • I will tell an adult I trust if anything makes me feel scared, uncomfortable, or confused.
  • I will ask my parents or guardian before sharing my personal information.
  • I won't meet in person with anyone I have first "met" online.

Smart Moves

The SMART Moves (Skills Mastery and Resistance Training) prevention/education program addresses problems such as drug and alcohol use. More than simply emphasizing a "Say No" message, the program teaches young people ages 6 to15 how to say no by involving them  in discussion and role-playing, practicing resistance and refusal skills, developing assertiveness, strengthening decision-making skills and analyzing media and peer influence. With this the teens and I have Created  our show called "My Life My Conflicts."The goal of our new show is to help teens of all ages find a positive and responsible solution to their everyday conflicts and problems. Teens and children send us their story, our show re acts it and then at the end of our show, we display a positive way to confront or solve the conflict! All are true stories however REAL NAMES ARE NEVER USED. All we ask is for age and gender along with his/her story, this to help keep stories as confidential as possible.
